Major Michael E. Braud, who graduated from UT Health Science Center College of Pharmacy in 2018, was recently awarded the 2023 Society of Air Force Pharmacy Maxine Beatty Field Grade Officer of the Year Award. Braud is currently serving as the Chief of Pharmacy Operations at the 81st Diagnostic and Therapeutics Squadron, 81st Medical Group, Keesler Air Force Base (AFB), MS. In his current role, he is responsible for managing the military medication for beneficiaries receiving care at Keesler Medical Center. Additionally, Braud is responsible for the implementation of pharmacogenomics within clinical practice in the Department of Defense and chairs the Defense Health Agency’s Pharmacogenomics Advisory Subpanel.

The Maxine Beatty Field Grade Officer of the Year Award, which Braud was recently honored with, is part of the Jerry W. Ross award program. The program is named after another UT Health Science Center College of Pharmacy alumnus, Jerry W. Ross. Ross, who received his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1967 from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, was a well-known figure in both the civilian and military communities for his drug abuse prevention activities. During his time in the Air Force, Ross implemented one of the early unit dose programs and rose through the ranks from Airman Basic to Colonel. He was the first Pharmacist to serve as the Chief of the Biomedical Sciences Corps and his contributions have led to many of the programs and opportunities available to technicians and pharmacists today.
