Muscular Dystrophy Association Camp

Students from the UTHSC College of Pharmacy Nashville Campus took time this summer to volunteer at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) camp held at YMCA Camp Widjiwagon in Antioch, Tenn.

Dr. Tracy Hagemann, Associate Dean of the Nashville Campus, led a group of four students: Kyle Tran (P2) and Jordan Perrine (P4), Rebecca Moser (P4) and Allie Smith (P4). The group was responsible for checking in medications for the campers as they arrived for the week-long MDA Camp. The student pharmacists talked with the parents and campers about their medication regimens, reconciling the medications, and verifying doses. It was the first time the camp had pharmacists on site to assist with check in.

The MDA camp is held annually and draws campers from Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia and Alabama. The campers range in age from 8 to 17 years old and many have complex medication regimens.
